Custom-Molded Rubber Products: What Could You Make?

Rubber has a vast spectrum of applications and utilities; its intrinsic strength allows it to be a versatile product. Its ability to be simultaneously durable and flexible gives it unique advantages. Unlike metals, liquids and gases have no effect on the integrity of the rubber. It can be bent, beaten, and receive intense amount of pressure, and it will remain intact. While rubber, like metal, is very malleable, it has the added advantage of being extremely cost efficient—often costing a fraction of what its metal counterpart would.

Given the obvious effectiveness of rubber, it’s no surprise that all of the following are custom-molded rubber products.

Food Grade Gaskets and Seals: In factories where food is processed, in butcher shops and meatpacking facilities, and in all beverage and dairy plants, custom-made gaskets and seals are essential for food packaging and preparation. These rubber products ensure that there are no leakages in the machinery that could potentially waste valuable products. Quality is key for all custom made rubber food grade gaskets and seals in the United States, as they are forced to pass rigorous FDA compliance testing before being used.

Farm and Construction Equipmentarm and Construction EquipmentFarm and Construction Equipment: Heavy machinery relies on rubber track systems. Track undercarriage systems allow mobility for large mobile cranes, tractors, bulldozers, and other heavy machinery. They use these track systems in order to decrease the pressure over the entire vehicle by distributing the weight evenly. This produces a stronger base for the lifting, pushing, and pulling that these machines are designed to do.

Valves: Maintaining the integrity in valves is reliant on quality rubber materials, whether they are found in a home piping system or a hazardous chemical manufacturing facility. There are many ways in which custom rubber can be implemented into machinery, ranging from one-way flapper valves, to the rubber snap-in variety in tires, to duckbill valves that are completely dependent on positive and negative pressure. Whether the valve is being used to stop (or allow) the flow of liquid or gas, in a high-pressure situation, it is imperative that quality custom valves are used in order to create the proper seal.

Electrical Distribution: Electrical boxes and plugs are often outfitted with custom-molded rubber products. There are two major reasons for this. The primary reason is that rubber, unlike metal, does not conduct electricity. This allows for a current to safely travel from the outlet to the device in question, in both small, at-home uses and when dealing with large-scale electrical grids. The secondary reason is that rubber, being as durable as it is, will not crack or break easily, as plastic often can.

Railroads: Railroad safety is of the utmost importance these days, as trains become increasingly fast. Rail seal strips, rubber tie plates, rubber tie pads, and rubber abrasion pads (among others), are some of the most important safety features in railroads. Built to be resilient, they are able to absorb the constant shocks, pressure, and forces exerted by the locomotives that travel over them. The rubber products prevent the forces of nature from eroding the track and are constructed to endure time, lasting decades if properly produced.

Pipe-laying Vessels: Pipe-laying vessels are integral to the offshore oil refineries we rely on for oil. The massive piping that is laid along the ocean floor must be placed with precision, and with the intense pressures of the deep ocean must be protected against cracks or leakage. Therefore, rubber rollers and track pads are used to make sure no leakage or breakage occurs in the pipe laying process.
